Your Kitchen Needs and Kitchen Utensils

One of the most useful but the most overlooked things that we have is kitchen utensils. Just imagine what would be our life if we had to eat our meals without a spoon, a fork and a knife. For instance drinking soup would not be possible at all without these utensils.

In the initial period of western culture, royal people, aristocrats and wealthy people used silver utensils to cook and eat their meals. Silver was one of the precious and rare metals that time and was only used by the upper class people. Wooden utensils were also some of the utensils produced and used in previous times. Inexpensive steel and wooden utensils were used by common people while cooking and eating their meals.

Though wooden utensils can be considered as traditional utensils, they are still being used by many people. Now we can see modern wooden kitchen utensils are produced with unique craftsmanship and are created in different patterns and designs. The most popular utensils like forks, ladles, pins, spatulas and spreaders are made of wood.

Waxed wooden utensils are very popular these days. We can see them in almost every kitchen now. Wooden utensils require additional care and maintenance so they will last for long time in your kitchen. Wooden utensils should always be hand washed. Wood will eventually crack because of heat, if you put them in dishwasher. Make sure to wash them with cold water and mild soap.

You may feel wood grains on these utensils after using them for a while, this is because of the moisture and can be easily fixed by rubbing the utensil carefully with the help of sandpaper. Wash and dry the utensils after sanding. You can also use an old brown bag if you don’t have sandpaper with you.
