6 Upgrades Your Kitchen Needs To Make It Look New Again

Don’t you hate it when you try to open the kitchen cupboard and the door lands on your head? If you’ve had the same kitchen for many years it’s probably falling apart. It won’t look the same as it did when you first had it fitted. Colors fade and units break as the years go on. You should be proud of your kitchen. It should look nice, because you’re in there every day and unless you cook with your eyes closed you will see everything that’s wrong with the place. That eventually starts to play on your mind. Give your kitchen the quick once over and see what needs brought up to date.

Check your doors

After a few years of opening and closing doors every day they become worn out. Eventually they will suddenly jump off. Even if they don’t land in your face it’s still annoying having to be careful when you go looking for food. If any of the doors are hanging of their hinges you should get them fixed. You don’t need to go out and buy completely new units. I’m sure it’s nothing a screwdriver couldn’t fix. Even if you have to buy new doors it’s not as if they are expensive.

Fix your tiles

If you use tiled flooring, or even tiled walls, you will begin to see some of them crack and possibly fall off. These should be replaced because they just look horrible. They are also a hazard for pets, or you if you walk on them with your bare feet. This only applies to the floor tiles unless you’re Spiderman and can walk on walls. It’s not too difficult to fix broken tiles. If you can’t do it yourself, you can get someone to come and they can rip the old ones out and put new ones in. You only have to change the broken ones.

Upgrade your appliances

Your kitchen will look bad if you’re using appliances that should have been put to bed years ago. Not only do they look horrible, but there are actually costing you a lot more money on your electric bill. It’s a double bonus when you get rid of them. You don’t need to go out and buy the most expensive ones you can find. Anything new will look a lot better. The first one to start with is the one sitting on your countertop in the most obvious place. You might still get a while out of the ones hidden in the cupboard.

Fix the layout

You might not realize this, but the way you store things can have a huge difference. Sometimes you get used to everything being in a certain place and you don’t realize it would serve you better if they were something else. Maybe you have managed to work this out over the years, but probably not. Give the place a little shakeup and see how you feel. The change might do you the world of good. Something as simple as swapping the plates and cups around can breathe new fresh air into the kitchen, because it will feel alien for the first few weeks.

A lick of paint

If you have any wallpaper in the kitchen it must be getting old. All that steam rising up and pulling it away from the wall. It probably lost it’s color years ago. If anything is really bad, and by that I mean hanging off, you will have to repaper the wall. If it’s not looking terrible you could just give the walls a lick of paint. It’s well overdue. Don’t forget to paint the ceiling because it doesn’t stay white for very long in a busy kitchen.

Change your dinnerware

After a while your dinnerware gets boring. You are so used to sitting down with it to eat your food. This last option isn’t exactly crucial, unless you are seriously running low on spoons, but it does make a nice change. We all love buying new things and dinnerware is no exception. If you eat out in a friends house the first thing you will probably notice if the different shaped knife and fork.
