5 Easy Ways To Keep Your Kitchen Floors Clean
You love keeping your house clean but the kitchen seems to like you cleaning it a bit more. You are always mopping and dusting and just cannot seem to get rid of the dirt. What many people do not realize is that it is not the kitchen that is dirty as such, but really their ways of handling the issue.
Well, the kitchen is oneĀ of the high traffic areas in your home with every person getting in and out of it every 3 hours, looking for something to place in their stomach, not mentioning the wild cooking session that create good food, but a messy kitchen.
The key to keeping your kitchen clean especially the floors is to clean immediately once you see any parts of it dirty. Food gets messy and sticky when you allow it to remain on the surface and decide to clean it hours later. It is harder to clean and get you tired at the end of the task. Here is how to always have a clean floor without getting overworked about it:
1.Clean high traffic areas often
When speaking about the cleanliness of the kitchen, it is not the whole kitchen that gets dirty, but a section of the kitchen. The best thing is to deal with these areas on a daily basis, in order to avoid the dirt spreading to other areas. Check around the fridge for those scraps that fall when picking food. Concentrate around and under the microwave.
The oven is also a problematic area given the high levels of grease and crumbs you are bound to find. Most importantly do not leave the stove or cooker behind. These are the high traffic areas, giving the rest of the kitchen a bad name.
2.Clean spills fast
Never allow a spill to remain un-wiped. Spills are the number one stain creators on your floors, countertops and walls. If you pour something accidentally, stop whatever you are doing and get cleaning. When you make a habit of it, it will come easily to you and become part of your routine.
You may argue that you do not want to interrupt the food making process, or the cleaning agents will get into the food. It may sound harsh but these are the excuses that make you end up with stained marble floors and countertops. Once you get a stubborn stain ingrained on your floor, no matter how hard you clean it, it will leave your floor with a dull appearance.
3.Change how you prepare your food
Most of the dirt in the kitchen is made during the food preparation processes. Therefore, to avoid having a messy kitchen, you might want to change the methods you use when preparing food. Ensure that you prepare the food close to the sink and that you keep your hands inside the sink or a bowl.
When you prepare food items on a flat surface, chances of spilling or making a mess are very high. Opt for a scenario where your hands are on a lower surface as opposed to a flat or raised surface. This way, nothing lands on the floor and you have little to wipe afterwards.
4.Have low comfortable seating areas for kids
Children can make you dread any eating session when you think of the mess you have to clean afterwards. It does more harm than good to scold your children every mealtime. They are naturally messy as they are still forming their body coordination. It is easier to adjust their seats and tables to compensate for this factor.
Ensure their seat is low so that they do not miss their mouth. They should be able to sit as close to the table as possible, without feeling restricted. You can opt to change your flooring tone, which allows for easy cleaning without staining such as concrete floors. A general rule is that you should keep away from tiling and marble if you have kids.
5.Clean as you cook in the kitchen
Sometimes the stains and spills go long without attention due to lack of time. Kill two birds with one stone by cleaning your kitchen as your prepare your food. After you are through with the early preparations, as the food boils, the pot roast is in the oven and the ice cream in the fridge, use this time to clean up. You are in the kitchen either way so you can check on the food as you do so.
Kitchen floors need not be a headache as they are purported to be. You can make your floor clean, perhaps even clean enough to eat from! I’m kidding!
