Outdoor Kitchen Designing Tips
Cooking outdoors can be fun and practical on a warm afternoon, but only if your outdoor kitchen is properly designed. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be as large as an indoor one, but it should have enough space, appliances and supplies to save you from unnecessary trips inside. Therefore, we are going to share some outdoor kitchen designing tips with you!
First of all, cook top and grill are paramount, therefore you must have at least these appliances functional enough to handle what you plan to cook on them. Of course, we’re not against installing a complete kitchen set with a mini-refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher, but it’s more recommended for people living in warmer climates who really spend most of their daytime outdoors.
Besides the cooking space, you need countertop space for food preparation. We suggest hardy materials for counter-tops, such as stone or granite, well anything capable to withstand weather conditions such as heavy rain or snow. Cooking appliances should, for similar reasons, be installed underneath the countertops.
Storage space is something you wouldn’t forget when planning an indoor kitchen, would you? Although you don’t need that much storage space in your outdoor cooking environment, avoid multiple trips by making your open-air kitchen more homey. Keep in mind that whether you use freestanding drawers, bins or cabinets, they need to withstands cooking utensils and ingredients and to be heavy enough for high winds. Metal or wood cabinets? Yes, they are alright as long as you install them against the inner wall attached to the home or underneath the counters.
When it comes to lightning, it is often forgotten, while it shouldn’t be. Sometimes it’s really nice to enjoy dinner as the sun sets, especially if you have the seaside cottage house. Install light around or overhead to illuminate cooking areas and to create a lovely dining atmosphere. Also, make sure your kitchen blends with the rest of your outdoor space. Most people shield their outdoor kitchen too much from the elements, cutting themselves off from a scenic view. We highly recommend making the two areas flow together to complete the joyful outdoor experience.
