refrigerator maintenanceThe appliance in your kitchen that works almost continuously is your refrigerator. Therefore it is most likely to stop working at some point of time. However if you keep a regular maintenance of your fridge, it can work smoothly, years after years. Professionals at CLDUAE.ae, a leading refrigerators repairing services in Dubai, share here top tips for refrigerator maintenance.

1. Clean the Condenser Coils Regularly

The job of condenser coils is to remove heat from the freezers and refrigerators. These are big coils resembling a radiator, located on the rear side of the unit. When dirt and dust accumulate on them, it becomes more and more difficult for the refrigerator to remove the heat. This leads to increased consumption of energy and can further result into more severe problems and expensive repairs. But if you clean these coils regularly, it can save you a lot of money and problem. Cleaning coils is easy and you can do it with a brush with a long handle and a vacuum. Also don’t forget to follow instruction manual for any particular cleaning requirements.

2. Clean the Gasket

The rubber seal you can see on the doors of your refrigerator and freezer is known as gasket. It’s generally neglected, but it does the important role of sealing warm air out. You can clean it and maintain its efficiency regularly with a universal cleaning spray. Gaskets are commonly seen to be weakened, torn or loosened only within a few years. Upon this, warm air enters inside the refrigerator and makes it difficult for the unit to remove the heat. This of course, leads to increased energy consumption and increased energy bills. Luckily, gaskets are cheap and can be replaced easily.

3. Defrost

When the thickness of frost accumulated on the inner sides of freezer becomes more than 1 cm, remember to remove food from the refrigerator and turn the thermostat off to defrost, i.e. allow the frost to melt. When the frost totally melts, turn the unit on and restock it with food.

There are self-defrosting units available too where you don’t have to perform the above procedure.

4. Keep the Interior Clean

Clean the interior weekly with a dampened soft cloth and remove all the spills and crumbs from walls, doors, handles and shelves. You can use plain warm water or an all-purpose cleaner for this.

5. Deodorize

With a specially designed deodorizer, you can remove unwanted odors from your refrigerator. You can also use baking soda for the purpose; but according to the manufacturer, a deodorizer is 50 times more efficient than the baking soda, for this purpose. It works up to six months. Keep foods in airtight containers to seal in odors and also to keep food fresh for longer.

If the problem is beyond your control, you can always invite repair services like CLDUAE.ae and get your unit repaired. But regular maintenance regime will minimize such incidences.
